Nude York
by AnneLise Sorensen
It’s often said that New Yorkers are a jaded bunch – that nothing fazes them, because they’ve seen it all. Artist Erica Simone may change that. This Parisian in New York is photographing herself in the nude throughout the city, from riding a chopper to munching a Gray’s Papaya hotdog. Her new exhibit of self-portraits, “Nue York: Portraits of a Bare Urban Citizen,” is showing at The Dash Gallery in Tribeca.
The full-color photos are unflinching, challenging – but also playful. Above all, Simone has managed to do something extraordinary: capture the most photographed city in the world in a wholly new way. Judging from all the excited buzz so far, perhaps New Yorkers aren’t so jaded after all.
